Transitioning from Arq Cloud Backup to Arq Premium
What is the difference between Arq Cloud Backup and Arq Premium?
Arq Cloud Backup was a standalone Mac-only backup app with built-in cloud storage managed by Haystack Software.
Arq Premium is the successor service. It includes the full Arq 7 app plus built-in cloud storage and web access to your files. Arq Premium supports up to 5 computers under a single subscription and includes 1 TB of storage.
Why should I switch to Arq Premium?
Arq Premium replaces Arq Cloud Backup. By switching you get:
- The latest Arq 7 app with all current and future features
- Web access to your files at cloud.arqbackup.com — retrieve files from any browser even when you don’t have your computer with you
- Support for up to 5 computers on a single subscription
How do I make the transition?
- Install Arq 7 if you haven’t already, and sign in with your Arq Premium account.
- In Arq, choose File > Import Arq Cloud Backup Settings…
- Click OK. Arq will create a new backup plan using the same file selections and schedule from your Arq Cloud Backup configuration.
- Once the import succeeds, open the Arq Cloud Backup app and choose Uninstall from its menu.
What happens to my existing backup data?
Your existing Arq Cloud Backup data is not automatically migrated to Arq Premium storage. Arq will start a fresh backup to your Arq Premium storage location. Your old Arq Cloud Backup data will remain until you uninstall Arq Cloud Backup and that data ages out or is deleted according to any retention rules you have set.
If you need to restore a file from before the transition, you can do so from within the old Arq Cloud Backup app before uninstalling it.
Will I have to re-upload everything?
Yes. Because Arq Premium uses separate storage from Arq Cloud Backup, Arq 7 will perform a full initial backup to your Arq Premium storage. Subsequent backups will be incremental as usual.
Will my encryption password carry over?
Yes. When you import your Arq Cloud Backup settings, Arq uses the same encryption password you had set in Arq Cloud Backup to protect the new backup plan. You do not need to enter it again during the import.
Will I be billed twice during the transition?
If you have an active Arq Cloud Backup subscription and you are also subscribed to Arq Premium, you will be billed for both until you cancel the Arq Cloud Backup subscription. Once you have completed the import and confirmed that Arq 7 is backing up successfully, cancel your Arq Cloud Backup subscription separately.
Will my backup schedule be preserved?
Yes. The import copies your existing backup schedule (daily backup time, frequency, etc.) from Arq Cloud Backup into the new Arq Premium backup plan.
